Week 3 Recap:

Living on Mission: A Call to Action

Introduction: In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to get distracted from what truly matters. Between the endless to-do lists, work obligations, and personal routines, our calling as believers can often fade into the background. Yet, as followers of Christ, we are reminded that we’re placed in this time, in this space, and in these communities with purpose. As the sermon emphasizes, living missionally isn’t about grand gestures but about being intentional with our lives for God’s glory. Let’s explore what it means to live “on mission” and embrace the calling God has placed on our lives.

What Does It Mean to Be Missional?: Being missional is about aligning our lives with God’s purpose. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not limited to overseas missions or outreach programs. Instead, it’s about being on mission in our everyday lives—whether at work, in our neighborhoods, or during a grocery run. The heart of being missional is to draw others closer to God through our actions, words, and love. As the speaker eloquently put it, “God has given us influence on purpose.”

Equipped by the Holy Spirit: The sermon highlights the transformative power of the Holy Spirit, which equips us to carry out God’s work. In Acts 1:8, Jesus promises that His followers will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon them. This power isn’t just for personal benefit but for the sake of witnessing to others. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead resides in every believer, empowering us to be bold in sharing the gospel and living out our faith.

Facing Distractions and Staying Focused: One of the greatest tactics of the enemy is distraction. From daily chores to the demands of work, we often lose sight of God’s call on our lives. The sermon challenges us to evaluate our priorities and shift our focus back to what truly matters: sharing the hope of Christ with those around us. Every believer has a divine calling, and it’s crucial to not let the noise of the world drown out God’s voice.

Witnessing with Boldness: Witnessing doesn’t require eloquent speeches or theological expertise. It can be as simple as sharing your faith in the same way you’d recommend a great restaurant. The sermon uses a relatable example of enthusiastically sharing favorite Mexican food spots, reminding us that sharing the gospel should come from a place of joy and authenticity. The question isn’t whether we are called to witness but whether we’re willing to step out in faith despite fear or discomfort.

Living with Purpose: God has placed each of us in our specific contexts for a reason. Whether it’s our neighborhood, workplace, or even the local coffee shop we frequent, we are there on purpose. The sermon challenges us to view every interaction as an opportunity to make an eternal impact. It’s not about doing more but about being intentional with where we are and what we’ve been given. As the pastor said, “Don’t waste a miracle.”

Conclusion: Living on mission requires a heart attuned to God’s purpose, a life empowered by the Holy Spirit, and a willingness to step outside of our comfort zones. As believers, we carry the antidote to a hurting world—the message of Jesus Christ. The choice is ours: Will we let distractions keep us from our calling, or will we embrace the mission God has placed before us? Let this be the year we say “yes” to living all in for Christ. After all, we weren’t saved to sit still; we were saved to share His love with the world.
