VICTORY. - Week 7

Week 7 Recap:

Victory Over Sin: Living Free Through Christ

Introduction: In a world filled with temptation, many believers quietly wrestle with a haunting question: Do I have to sin? The answer, grounded in Romans 6:1-14, is surprisingly freeing—no, we don’t. This isn’t wishful thinking or religious optimism. It’s the powerful truth of the gospel: we are no longer slaves to sin. Through Christ, we are not only forgiven, we are empowered to live differently—right now.

God’s Promise - You Don’t Have to Sin: Romans 6 opens with a bold declaration: “Should we continue in sin so that grace may abound? Absolutely not!” This isn’t just a command to stop sinning—it’s a promise that sin no longer has authority. God doesn’t leave us helpless in a broken world. When we’re saved, we’re not just given a future in heaven—we’re given freedom today. Grace doesn’t enable sin; it breaks its grip.

Baptism Means Burial and Resurrection: Baptism symbolizes more than church membership or public declaration—it marks a transformation. Being baptized into Christ is being buried with Him in death and raised to walk in newness of life. It’s a powerful statement: we are no longer part of Adam’s legacy of sin—we now belong to Christ. That shift in identity means we’re not obligated to follow the same destructive patterns. We’re free to live a new way.

Unity With Christ Breaks Sin’s Power: Unity with Jesus isn’t symbolic—it’s literal and life-changing. If Christ is without sin and we are joined to Him, then sin no longer defines us. Just like in a marriage where two become one, believers are one with Christ. His righteousness becomes our reality. Spiritually speaking, if Christ is 0% sin and we are 100% unified with Him, then our sin is reduced to zero. This spiritual truth isn’t just theology—it’s fuel for daily victory.

Presence Doesn’t Mean Reign: Sin may still be present, but it doesn’t have to reign. There’s a difference between facing temptation and living under its control. The call isn’t to pretend temptation doesn’t exist—it’s to refuse it power. We’re told to offer ourselves to God, presenting every part of our lives as tools for righteousness. This isn’t about pretending to be perfect—it’s about consistently choosing God over lesser things. And that choice gets easier the more we walk with Him.

Real Steps to Real Freedom: Victory over sin isn’t automatic, but it is promised. Living in that promise requires both knowing and doing:

  • Know that Christ died for your sins—past, present, and future.

  • Know that you died and rose with Him to walk in new life.

  • Consider yourself dead to sin and alive to God. Let that truth shape how you think.

  • Offer your body and your choices to God, daily.

  • Prefer Christ over sin by walking closely with Him. The more time spent with Him, the more desirable His way becomes.

This is how spiritual victory moves from concept to daily reality.

Closing - Freedom Starts Today: Freedom from sin isn’t some future prize—it’s a present reality. We don’t have to live in spiritual survival mode, waiting for heaven to bring relief. Victory is available today. When we walk with Christ, sin loses its power. And the world takes notice when believers actually live what they believe.

We are called to be salt and light—not hidden, not silent. The power that raised Christ from the dead is alive in us. And through Him, we live free.
